Coloring page story

Pip Squeak was a very small mouse with a very big heart. His most prized possession was a tiny, silver star ornament, so shiny it looked like a frozen raindrop. He wanted to place his star on the highest branch of the little holly bush in his mouse-hole, all by himself. Pip held the star carefully in his two paws. "This year," he whispered to himself, "you will be the most important star on the tree." He stood on his tippy-toes on a spool of thread, stretching, stretching... wobble, wobble... and tink! The star slipped. It didn't fall down. It vanished! Pip's whiskers drooped. A lump grew in his tiny tummy. He looked under the rug. No shiny star. He peeked inside his acorn teacup. No shiny star. A little tear rolled down his nose. "Oh, my star," he squeaked. Just then, his friend, Hoot the Owl, peered in through the window. "Pip, my friend, why the sad squeak?" "I've lost my star!" Pip cried. "It's gone forever!" Hoot blinked his big, round eyes. "Hmm. Sometimes, when things are very shiny, they don't hide in the dark. They hide in the light." He pointed a wing towards the Christmas tree. "Look again, but look for a sparkle." Pip looked. And there, nestled among the shiny green holly leaves, was a tiny, brilliant twinkle. It hadn't fallen to the floor; it had been caught by a leaf! It was hiding in plain sight! "You found it!" Pip cheered. Together, Hoot helped him place the star on the very top. It wasn't about doing it by himself after all; it was about sharing the sparkle.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The Chibi style with large heads and simple, rounded bodies is very appealing to 3-5 year olds. The large, distinct shapes of the mouse, owl, and holly leaves are easy for small hands to color within, improving motor control without causing frustration.

Hello, little artist! Look, Pip found his star! Can you help make this picture super colorful? You can make Pip any color you like – maybe a soft brown or a fun gray! The holly leaves would look wonderful in green, and don't forget the bright red berries. And the star... what color will your special, shiny star be? Maybe you can use a yellow or a sparkly silver crayon to make it twinkle!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

For the best coloring experience, print this page on slightly thicker paper, like cardstock. This helps prevent markers from bleeding through and stands up well to enthusiastic crayon coloring! Use your printer's standard or 'normal' quality setting for crisp, clear lines.

Recommended Tools

Chunky crayons are perfect for this age, as they are easy to grip and hard to break. Washable markers are also a great choice for bright, bold colors. Always make sure an adult is nearby when you're using your art supplies!
