Coloring page story
Beginning:
Timothy Mouse lived behind the wall in the big house. Every year, a giant green monster was brought inside. It had prickly arms, a strange piney smell, and it hummed with a low, scary sound. Timothy would hide and tremble until the monster was gone. This year, his older sister, Squeaky, said, "That's not a monster, Timothy! That's a Christmas tree! It's magic." But Timothy wasn't so sure.
Middle:
On Christmas Eve, the house was quiet. Squeaky dared him to go see the "magic." Timothy's heart beat a fast pitter-patter, pitter-patter. He crept out from the wall. The tree was even bigger up close. It was covered in winking lights that made strange shadows dance on the floor. He heard a soft hummmmm from the lights and a tiny clink as an ornament swayed. He was about to run back when he saw it: a small, gingerbread mouse hanging from a low branch. It looked just like him.
Ending:
Slowly, very slowly, Timothy crept closer. He reached out a tiny paw and touched the gingerbread mouse. It wasn't scary. It smelled sweet. He looked up and saw all the beautiful colors—red balls, gold tinsel, and a shining star at the very top. The humming sound was actually quite peaceful, like a lullaby. The winking lights were like friendly eyes. It wasn't a monster at all; it was beautiful. Timothy learned that sometimes, the things that seem scary are actually full of wonder, if you're just brave enough to take a closer look.
Coloring page Age Appropriateness
The 'miniature' perspective is fun for kids and clearly communicates the story. The main character is cute and non-threatening. All the elements—the mouse, the ornament, the branch—are drawn with simple, clear lines and large surfaces, making it accessible for the 3-5 age group's motor skills.
Coloring Page Coloring Instructions
Be brave with Timothy the mouse! He's discovering that the big tree isn't scary at all. Let's color him a nice, soft gray or brown. Look at the gingerbread mouse cookie! It would be yummy colored in a light brown, like a real cookie. The big Christmas tree branch needs a lovely green color. What colors will you make the other ornaments? Red, blue, yellow, sparkly? It's your magical tree!
Recommended Tools
This page is great for a mix of tools. Use a brown crayon for the gingerbread mouse to get that cookie texture. Use bright, fine-tipped markers for the small details on the ornaments. A nice green crayon or colored pencil would be perfect for filling in all the needles on the big tree branch.
