Coloring page story

Lily was a little girl with a big imagination and an even bigger heart. She believed that everything, even her toys, had feelings. Lily was painting a picture of a love heart for her grandpa. The paint-by-number key showed that Number 1, the most important color for a heart, was a bright, cherry red. She opened the little red pot. Pop! She dipped her brush in, but the paint wouldn't stick. It was thick and lumpy. "Come on, red paint," she said. She tried again. The paint stayed stubbornly in its pot. "Are you... grumpy?" Lily whispered. The paint seemed to grumble with a thick glug. Lily felt frustrated. How could she paint a love heart with grumpy red paint? It would just be a lumpy, bumpy heart. She tried coaxing it. "Please, Mr. Red? It's for my grandpa." The paint just sat there. Lily sighed. "Maybe you're not feeling very cheerful today," she said, her own shoulders slumping. Lily had an idea. She put down her brush and started to hum a happy little song her grandpa always sang. Then she said, "I know! Maybe you're lonely." She took her brush, dipped it in the sparkly gold paint (Number 2), and painted a tiny, shimmery star right next to the heart outline. "There," she said to the red pot. "A friend for you." She dipped her brush back into the red pot. This time, the paint was smooth and bright. It flowed onto the paper, creating the most beautiful, cheerful red heart she had ever seen. The grumpy paint just needed a little kindness and a friend.
