Coloring page story

Percy and Polly were two penguin best friends. They did everything together, from sliding on their bellies to catching fish. They were great at sharing, but today would be a test. Percy and Polly got a paint-by-number picture of the ocean. It was full of blue waves (Number 1), green seaweed (Number 2), and yellow fish (Number 3). But the best part was the big, magical fish in the middle. It was Number 4, and the paint for Number 4 was the most amazing, super-sparkly silver. There was only one tiny pot of it. They painted the whole picture together, saving the best for last. "My turn for the sparkle!" chirped Percy. "No, my turn!" waddled Polly. They both reached for the pot. Percy wanted to paint the whole fish in big, sparkly stripes. Polly wanted to paint it in sparkly polka-dots. "Stripes are better!" "Polka-dots are best!" They started to argue, their happy painting day turning sour. The little pot of sparkle sat between them, unused. They both looked so sad that they stopped. "I don't like fighting," said Polly, her beak trembling. "Me neither," said Percy, shuffling his feet. Then Percy looked at the fish, and then at Polly. "What if," he said slowly, "I paint a stripe, and then you paint a dot? And then I paint a stripe, and you paint a dot?" Polly's eyes lit up. "A stripe-a-dot fish!" They took turns, carefully. A silver stripe, a silver dot. A silver stripe, a silver dot. When they were finished, the fish shimmered and shone like nothing they had ever seen. It was more beautiful than just stripes or just dots. Sharing the sparkle had made it twice as bright.

Coloring page Age Appropriateness

The design is excellent for the 3-5 age group. The penguins are cute and simple. The main focus, the fish, is broken down into very basic, large shapes (stripes and dots), which is a fun and easy-to-manage coloring challenge. The underwater theme is engaging and popular with young children.

Coloring Page Coloring Instructions

Percy and Polly learned to share! Let's color their special fish. You can color the stripes one color and the polka-dots another. Maybe sparkly silver stripes and rainbow polka-dots? And don't forget the two happy penguins! The water all around them can be a beautiful blue. What a happy picture you are making!

Coloring Page Printing Tips

Recommended Tools

A set of assorted markers is perfect for making the stripe-a-dot fish vibrant and fun. Crayons are great for the large water background. If you have any glitter crayons or gel pens (for older kids in the age range), this is the perfect page to use them on the fish!
