“Is it… nutmeg? Or… moonbeams?” wondered the baker elf, Barnaby, squinting his eyes. He sniffed the cookie dough. “My nose is too stuffy! It all smells like glitter!”

They tried a batch with nutmeg. The cookies were tasty, but they didn't sparkle. They tried one with a drop of melted icicle. The cookies were crunchy, but they didn’t have the magical shimmer.

Lily watched them, her brow furrowed in thought. Santa gave her a piece of the plain dough to try. She nibbled it. It tasted warm and sweet and… familiar. It tasted just like the holiday cookies her grandma always made.

“I know! I know!” she chirped. “It’s cinnamon! And a little bit of ginger!”

Santa’s eyes lit up. “Of course! The warmth of the spices!” They added a sprinkle of cinnamon and a dash of ginger. They put the cookies in the oven, and when they came out, they weren't just brown, they glowed with a soft, golden light.

Lily had used a memory from her own home to solve a North Pole problem. The reindeer gobbled up the cookies, their coats shimmering with new energy.
